Gift of Levi

Gift of Levi is a project inspired by my son’s two and a half month stay in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) following his premature birth at 27 weeks of gestation. Though my son, Levi Grey, did remarkably well despite his early delivery, it was difficult to see other babies–and subsequently their parents–struggle with life in the NICU. More difficult still was seeing and knowing babies depart to the next life.

The project is a response to this tragedy. It aims to provide final clothing (burial dresses and outfits) to the parents of babies that have passed away. It is a small gift; simply one less thing to think about as these parents go through the difficult task of saying a final goodbye to their precious child.

In an effort to be both environmentally sustainable and financially sustainable, Gift of Levi collects unwanted white fabric from local designers, pre-loved white clothes (in almost new condition), and wedding dresses to use as the fabric for the dresses and ensembles. Thread donations (cotton thread), button donations (white buttons) are also accepted. Donations can be delivered directly to Rachel Kelly Davis at Dominion Building, 4th Floor, 833 Antonio Arnaiz Ave, Makati, 1200 Metro Manila.

Anyone can purchase a Gift of Levi dress on this website, and the proceeds will go to the creation of that dress and to the delivery of that dress to a NICU in the country. Right now we are focused on providing dresses for Philippine General Hospital, but we plan to expand to all hospitals in need. There are 109 Level-3 hospitals in the country, and many more other hospitals that take on infants as patients. It is a gargantuan effort, but with your support, we know we can make it happen.
